Persistence Is the Name Of The Game
I get frustrated when I feel like I’m being relentlessly pursued by salespeople. As a result, I tend to pull back when I’m doing sales.
But every time we approach the boundary where I feel uneasy with our follow ups with coffee shops, we close more sales and nobody complains.
In fact, the general sentiment is something like:
“I’m so glad you reached back out! We loved your product, but we get really busy and forgot to follow up. Thanks for reconnecting.”
It’s hard to reconcile my personal fear of pushing too much with the appreciation from prospects and the fact that it delivers better outcomes.
The evidence points to the fact that I just have a poorly calibrated sense of the appropriate amount of persistence. It might feel wrong to me, but the prospects largely appreciate it.
Lesson for myself: My default disposition is not relentless enough.
I suspect this is true for a lot of artists, founders, creators.

“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.”
