Most people think of food businesses as wildly different from software businesses.
The further we go in this journey, the less true that seems.
Another phrasing of this: I’m the non-technical founder of a food startup.
Tech = Food
Software = Pastries
CTO = Kitchen Manager
Engineer = Baker
Servers and laptops = Hobart mixer and ovens
I’m just the non-technical founder who partnered with a technical person (baker) to produce the product that I can’t produce (pastries).
It’s like every non-technical founder who partnered with a CTO to write the code.
The software (bread) is just the thing that is sold to the customer. Other than that, the rest of the business is the same.
We do accounting in Quickbooks, use Gusto for payroll, have an Instagram account for marketing, use Mailchimp for our email list, process payments on Stripe, use Notion for organization, Gmail for email, Slack for messages, etc.
We’re having conversations about whether we should raise money so we can grow faster. Not even kidding, we had a valuation conversation then decided we should use a SAFE if we do raise some money. (though now that I type this, I realize there’s probably some SBA option).
Sounds exactly like a tech startup to me.
Indeed!!!!
